Dutch junior rider Yasmin Westerink has welcomed a new horse in the barn, Marieke van der Putten's internationally competed small tour horse Amphitryon.

Amphitryon is an 11-year old Oldenburg gelding by Ampere out of Rosaria (by Rosario x Likoto xx). He is bred by Martin Otten and was owned by Saskia and Jacques Lemmens of RS2 Dressage

Licensed

The black Oldenburg was originally licensed as a stallion at the 2015 Oldenburg Saddle Licensing in April 2015. He was owned by Ina Schlömer at the time and named reserve champion.

He was offered for sale in the 2015 Oldenburg Spring Elite Auction and acquired by RS2 Dressage

Two months later he competed at the 2015 Oldenburg Young Horse Championships in Rastede under Heiko Klausing, while in 2016 Andreas Muller  showed him as a 4-year old.

The stallion moved to The Netherlands and went into training at RS2 Dressage, where Marieke van der Putten took on the ride. The horse was also gelded to be focused on sport.

The pair first came in the spotlight in 2022 when they made their international show debut at small tour level at the CDI Le Mans, followed by the CDI Lier and Opglabbeek, where they won the Inter I Kur. They were 7th at the 2022 Dutch Small Tour Championship.

They did not show internationally in 2023.

Amphitryon has now received a new rider in Dutch junior Yasmin Westerink.

During her successful international career on ponies, the 16-year old Westerink began competing horse Dibert L (by Vivaldi x Balzflug) in 2022 and made the definite move to junior level in 2023. Yasmin and the 15-year old Dibert L were selected for the Dutch team for the 2023 European Junior Riders Championships in Kronberg, but shortly before departure the horse was not fit due to a hoof abscess and Westerink had to withdrawn.

The Westerink family has now obtained a second iron in the fire with Amphitryon.

"Delighted to welcome Amphitryon," said Yasmin. "I still can’t believe it. So excited about the future with my new superstar.  Can’t wait to get to know him better."
