Swiss based Turkish Grand Prix rider Rotem Ibrahimzadeh said a painful goodbye to her first Grand Prix horse, Glorieus. The gelding sadly had to be put to sleep after developing laminitis.
Glorieus was a 12-year old Dutch warmblood by Apache out of Candida S (by Valdez).
"He got ill around early-mid autumn," Rotem told Eurodressage. "We tried to do everything in our power to at least bring him to a place where he could retire and be happy in his field but it just wasn't possible. After consulting with different vets they all reach the same conclusion that sadly there was no decision left. I wish for no one to have to be in that position."
Bred by T. Hassink, the bay gelding sold to Spain as a youngster and was first owned by Andrea Ursula Kaefer. In 2016 he competed in the 5-year old tests with Miguel Jorda Forteza at the CDI's in Valencia and Oliva Nova.
In May 2022 Rotem's trainer Morgan Barbançon scouted Glorieus in Germany and it proved to be a match.
"It was in a way love at first sight but also he had quite a lot of talent and I wasn't sure if I would be able to manage it due to my lack of experience at the time," Rotem reminisced "It was the first horse I had that knew the Grand Prix movements."

"He took a lot of my first show jitters through medium tour and tried to hold my hand," said Rotem. "The GP was of course a little different as it was new combinations for him too. He loved his downtime in the field eating and chilling more than anything else that's how I want to remember him. I loved my horse to my core i know it wasn't perfect always and we had many ups and downs but he taught me so many things. His family misses him, wish we had more time together."
