Caporal de Massa, Mette Dahl's British junior team bronze medal winning ride, has been sold to Germany. He will continue under German junior rider Margareta Werle.
Caporal de Massa is an 12-year old purebred Lusitano by Rieto out of Vexame SPP (by Xaqiero). He is bred by Sylvain Massa.
Mathilde Juglaret
The grey stallion was first trained by Vincent Serrano before Arnaud Serre took over the ride. Caporal was then passed on to Arnaud's step daughter Mathilde Juglaret in 2020.
The pair finished 7th place in the Kur to Music finals at the 2020 European Junior Riders Championships in Pilisjaszfalu. In 2021 they were 10th in the Kur finals at the European Junior Riders Championships in Oliva Nova, Spain. The pair also won the 2021 French Junior Championships
In 2022 Juglaret and Caporal won the Kur to Music at the 2022 CDIO-JR Hagen in Germany. At the 2022 European Junior Riders Championships in Hartpury, they were fourth in the individual test and made history for France by winning the bronze medal in the Kur.
Mette Dahl
After the success of Caporal at the Europeans, owner Sylvain Massa wanted to make coin and sent the stallion to Helgstrand Dressage to be sold.
British Olympian Fiona Bigwood acquired Caporal for her daughter Mette Dahl in the early spring of 2023. The new duo debuted internationally at the CDI Hickstead and from there went to the CDI Wellington Heckfield winning four junior level CDI classes in a row. Hopes were high for the pair at the 2023 European Junior Riders Championships, where they got team bronze after an unprecedented four-medal team podium. They were 16th in the Kur to Music. It was their last CDI together
Sold to Germany
Bigwood has now decided to sell Caporal de Massa and a new owner has been found in Simone Werle. Dressprod first reported the sale.
Mette Dahl told Eurodressage that "unfortunately my mum is still struggling to ride all of her horses after her accident six months ago so I am having to help her alongside doing A-levels this year. With all of this happening we had to make some difficult decisions. It was not our plan to sell him but due to mums situation everything changed."
After the Europeans Mette Dahl continued with her mom's now 19-year old Sir Donato (by Sir Donnerhall x Barsoi xx) at Grand Prix level and Fiona's most recent Grand Prix horse, the 13-year old and 18.2hh standing Daytona Platinum (by Dante Weltino x Charon), at Advanced Medium level in the U.K.
"I am hoping to compete Fidelio and Daytona and Donato," Mette explained. "We believe Capo has found a lovely home and that is always a priority for us and we wish him them the best of luck."
Margareta Werle
Simone Werle's daughter Margareta "Greti" Werle is a junior rider in Bavaria.
The Munich based Werle began competing nationally in 2018 at E and A-level with pony Raffaelo (by Rheingold x Campari Pur). In 2019 pony Petit Noir (by Playboy x Nadler) joined the collection and as of 2020 there has been Oldenburg gelding Star of Rubica (by Sandro Hit x Royal Diamond) and Westfalian gelding Darley's Springtime (by Daley Thompson x Romantik-boy). She made her international show debut in October 2021 in Ornago at children's level with those two horses.
In 2022 DSP mare Wild-Elektra (by Escolar x Coriograf B) joined the collection and she showed at the CDI's in Mariakalnok and Hagen in the Children's classes. As of 2023 Margareta also showed the KWPN gelding Lets Go Win (by Grand Galaxy Win x Krack C) and Westfalian mare Florentina S (by For Romance x Sandro Hit) up to S-level.
Werle has trained with Michaela Grupen before switching to Jörg Schroedter last summer.
