In The Netherlands the team selection trials for the 2024 World Championships for young dressage horses kicked off on 13 and 15 May 2024 with a first viewing and selection trial held at Zilfia's Hoeve in Houten.
More than 100 horses participated in the first viewing and were therefore split up in two groups over two days. The selectors are Johan Hamminga, Alex van Silfhout, and Janine van Twist.
"We saw a good group of horses with only a few weaker ones and a few very strong combinations at the top," said Hamminga. All pairs had to perform the preliminary test. "These tests are not easy. You need a good quality horse, but also able to ride well. In the 6- and 7-year old group we saw several horses with more show experience and they handled the test well. They have an advantage because in the end at the Championships it's about riding the test. The contact was a very important marker in our selection. We want to see horses ridden equally on both reins and nice in the bridle with a harmonious picture."
Twenty-one 5 and 6 year olds and sixteen 7-year olds were selected for the first long list. They are

The second qualifier is on 11 - 12 June in Ermelo (NED). On these days also wild card combinations who were unable to be at the first trial can present themselves. The best 12 horses per age group will be selected for the third trial on 16 July after which the team will be announced.
