The German equestrian federation announced that Quantaz has been swapped for Wendy for the German team in the 5* tour at the 2024 CDIO Aachen.
With Quantaz' Grand Prix scores recently trending downwards and Wendy's going upwards, the Danish warmblood has now officially become Isabell Werth's Olympic hopeful.
Highluy Expected Intervention
Queenparks Wendy - who has been "rebranded" as Wendy de Fontaine since her move from Andreas Helgstrand's to Isabell Werth - is a 10-year old Danish warmblood mare by Sezuan x Soprano. She is owned by Bollette Wandt, Helgstrand Dressage and Isabell's sponsor Madeleine Winter-Schulze.
Wendy missed out on the first, mandatory German Olympic team selection trial in Balve. To make up for lost scores she was sent to the CDIO Rotterdam, although Werth had originally entered SuperB there.
The German equestrian federation had originally entered Wendy for the 4* tour in Aachen but has now moved her up into the 5* group that is competing for an Olympic team spot.
Direct Comparison
This was decided by the Elite Sport Dressage Selection Committee of the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports (DOKR).
"The Nations Cup in Aachen is a trial for the Olympic Games in Paris. We would like to see Wendy again in direct comparison with the other Nations Cup horses at 5* level over three competitions," explained national coach Monica Theodorescu.
With Jessica von Bredow-Werndl already nominated on the German team for the Olympics, three riders will battled for the two other team spots: Frederic Wandres (Bluetooth), Isabell Werth (Wendy), Ingrid Klimke (Franziskus), and Katharine Hemmer (Denoix).
