Dutch Under 25 rider Quinty Vossers has suddenly lost her international U25 horse, Hummer.  The gelding passed on 1 October 2024.

Hummer was a 12-year old KWPN gelding by Charmeur out of Caresia (by Daddy Cool x Ferro). He is bred by KJ. Duivenvoorde.

From Young Horses to U25

JJ Schalekamp acquired Hummer as a foal at the 2012 Prinsjesdag Foal Auction for 16,000 euro. As a 3-year old he was ridden by Stephanie Kooijman who finished third with him in the 2015 VSN Trophy Finals.

Based at De Randhoeve, the bay gelding was then competed by Britney Schut at the 2017 Dutch Indoor Championships.  After that Emma Laarkamp briefly showed the horse and finished second in the KWPN Zuid-Holland Cup.

Vossers bought Hummer frol Schalekamp in January 2018 through dealer Nikay van Duren and started training with Adelinde Cornelissen.

Cornelissen was listed as owner with the FEI at the start of 2018, but in July 2018 that ownership changed to the Vossers family.

Both Adelinde and Quinty rode the 5-year old Hummer in the Dutch WCYH selection trials for the 2018 World Young Horse Championships but he was named first reserve with Adelinde.

The start of their partnership was not an easy one as Vossers moved from ponies to young horses and without gaining experience on a schoolmaster for the transition to horses.

In 2019 Emma Laarkamp rode him at Prix St Georges level before Quinty presented him at the Dutch team selection trials for 7-year olds for the 2019 World Young Horse Championships

They made their international debut in 2020 at Young Riders level, competing in Hagen.

Quinty and Hummer were selected on the Dutch team for the 2020 European Young Riders Championships in Pilisjaszfalu, where they won team gold and finished 13th in the Kur to Music finals.

In 2021 they returned on the team for the Europeans in Oliva Nova, where they again won team gold but were 13th in the individual test, not making it into the kur as fourth Dutch rider. They were sixth at the 2021 Dutch Young Riders Championships.

For 1.5 year Hummer disappeared from the international scene as he was being produced to Grand Prix level. Vossers switched trainers from Cornelissen to Diederik van Silfhout and in April 2023 they their first medium tour CDI in Tolbert. A month later they began showing at U25 level in Exloo and from there did Geesteren and Kronenberg Indoor. They were named first reserve for the Dutch team for the 2023 European Under 25 Championships. They were 8th at the 2023 Dutch Under 25 Championships.

In 2024 they finished fifth at the 2024 Dutch Under 25 Championships After an 8-month break from CDI showing since Kronenberg, they did their first and only CDI of 2024. At the CDI Crozet  they won the U25 Kur to Music, their first international victory as a pair.

Sad Passing

Quinty and Hummer
Unfortunately the pair's career abruptly came to an end today as Hummer suffered a fatal colic attack.

"I'm inconsolable, my heart is broken. My Hummie is no more" Quinty took to Facebook. "It barely took 48 hours... Super healthy, full of energy, you were shining every day. Sunday morning this nightmare began. So many people who did everything to help you but to no avail. Pure bad luck they call what you had. I kept faith in you until you took your last breath. My winner, my fighter... Who would have ever thought it. It's so unfair."

A devastated Vossers continued, "a hole of emptiness you leave behind that nothing or no one can fill. Hummer, what a special horse you were! My best buddy through thick and thin. We understood each other."
