The Rhinelander breeding stallion Escamillo will be pulled from stud duty by the end of the week to continue his career in sport.
Escamillo is a 10-year old Rhinelander bred stallion by Escolar out of Casilla (by Rohdiamant – De Niro). He is bred by Carolin Langhorst at Gestüt Tenterhof.
Premium Stallion
Owned by American Kimberly Davies-Slous, Escamillo became a premium stallion at the 2017 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing. He did his 14-day suitability test in Neustadt Dosse in April 2018 and scored 9.08 for dressage and 7.38 for show jumping. He did his sport test in February 2019 and got 8.38 for dressage.
The bay was initially stationed at Tobias Schult's yard but not competed. He was first presented under saddle by Timo Kolbe and later by Isabell Werth's assistant Lisa Wertnitznig.
Sport Career
In 2020 the stallion was pulled from stud duty to be focused on sport and moved to Helen Langehanenberg's yard. Helen rode him at the start but quickly allocated the stallion to her assistant at the time, Spaniard Manuel Dominguez Bernal.
The Spaniard rode Escamillo to silver at the 2021 World Young Horse Championships in Verden as a 6-year old and to bronze at the 2022 World YH Championships in Ermelo as a 7-year old. Those were the only two international starts of the stallion so far.
Nationally he continued to place third in the 2023 Nurnberger Burgpokal final. Three months later, in February 2024 he did his first Inter II test. A 13-month break from showing followed and on 22 March 2025 Escamillo scored a winning 75.920% in his second Inter II test in his career.
Stud Duties
So far Escamillo has sired over 30 licensed sons, including Escanto PS and Extreme U.S and Bundeschampion mare Eivissa.
Back to Sport
Today, Schockemöhle announced that Escamillo's availability with fresh semen will end. "(Escamillo) is set to earn merits in sport again. (...) (He) has prospect of really big championships," Schockemöhle stated.
Dominguez told Eurodressage that, "for this year the owner and I decided that sport is more important. In June we may start with some competitions and try to qualify for the Louisdor Cup. For the Spanish Championships it's too early for him. He needs to get more experience in the Inter II as an Grand Prix exercise. We start slow with him so he is more sure in the test, but of course you never know how things go. We will see."
The German based Dominguez is competing one horse at international Grand Prix level at the moment, the Hanoverian breeding stallion Danciano de Malleret.
