The Canadian based Hanoverian licensed stallion Spörcken has passed away. He was 17 years old.

Spörcken was by Sir Donnerhall out of  La Beale Isoud (by Lauries Crusador xx x Weltmeyer x Bolero). He was bred by Benedicte Meyer from Boudler in Luxembourg.

Celle State Stud

The dark bay stallion was licensed at the 2010 Hanoverian stallion licensing and was initially owned by the Celle State Stud.

He did his 70-day stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf in 2011. He scored 8.88 for dressage and 6.28 for show jumping to finish on a total of 7.79

Spörcken was hardly competed. Ole Köhler took the stallion to his first local show in Alvern in May 2013 and did two more that year. In 2014 he appeared at two local shows, no shows in 2015 and just one at M-level in May 2016.

Breeding in Germany

Spörcken found modest interest with the German breeders, but made quite an impact on the mare stock he sired.

He sired 165 daughters who are registered as broodmare in Germany and no less than 50 are state premium mare.

Seven of his sons were licensed in Germany, four made it into studbook I (Santiamo GT, Spökenkieker, Summertime Blues, and Schokolade).

He has 345 offspring registered for sport in Germany and five of them are competing at S-level. His most famous offspring in sport is Slaide (Katharina Hemmer), Scarlett o Harrah (Michael Bugan), Sansibar (Annika Korte), and Safira (Kelly Layne).

Move to Canada

In 2018 Celle sold Spörcken to  Jennifer Arnoldt of Dreamscape Farm in British Columbia, Canada. He was the first stallion Jennifer bought again to expand her stallion roster after the passing of Armin Arnoldt.

Owner Jennifer Arnoldt reported the early demise of her stallion Spörcken today.

"Last week we lost Sporcken, Spurk as he was known to us, in one of the saddest and most sudden ways possible, not something I have ever been through also something I hope never to experience again," she explained. "Spurk suffered a tragic freak paddock accident and broke his leg, we knew very quickly it was not good and what the likely sad outcome was going to be, our main concern was getting him as much help as possible as fast as we could."

She continued, "Sporcken as always stayed as stoic and kind, and patient just accepting of all the help he could get, his big trusting eyes will never be forgotten. (...) Sporcken meant a lot to me on many levels, he was the sweetest easiest stallion to have around so kind and always happy, he truly embraced that everyday was a good day, and he was friends with everyone, we could put him anywhere beside anyone and he would get along with them, just a gently soul, but also with a strong inner strength."
