Jana Freund's Grand Prix level competed XL pony stallion, FS Pearcy Pearson, has passed away. He was 32 years old.
FS Pearcy Pearson was a 1993 born German Riding pony stallion by FS Pavarotti out of Karina (by Downland Chorister x Karmin x Monkshorn Danny).
Jana Freund
He was bred by Josef Wilbers at Ferienhof Stücker for which Jana Freund was the header rider for years. She became the owner of the pony when sire FS Pavarotti sold.
Standing at 152cm, the stallion was licensed rather late in life, at the 2000 Rhinelander Pony stallion licensing based on his achievements in sport.
"He was always a little too big for a pony and he was my riding horse," Jana told Eurodressage. "At the age of 7 he had all results for licensing and a few breeders were asking to use him. Then we decided to have him licensed."
He sired 8 licensed sons (PSW Pitu, Pearcy Jackson, Pearcy's Popeye, Petit Platini, Power Point, Primetime's Paul, Primus, Punjabi).
He has 100 offspring registered for sport with the German equestrian federation. His most famous ones were probably FEI ponies Pearcy Pearson Junior (under Tiffen Berger and Eloise Barriere) and Pearcy's Popeye (Joanna Neidhöfer).
Sport Career
Pearcy Pearson was competed by four riders in his career.
He made his show debut in 1996 as a 3-year old under Jana Freund. In 1997 she alternated the ride with Eva Haubert and Sabrina Schröder. By 2000 Jana had him at M-level and by the summer of 2001 they were competed at Prix St Georges level.
In 2009 the ride was briefly given to Janine Drissen, but Freund was his principle rider until the pony's retirement from sport in 2012. They did two CDI's: In 2005 at the Zwolle International Stallion Show at Grand Prix level and at the 2009 CDI-W Mechelen at small tour level. Their last show was at small tour level in Frechen-Grefrath in May 2012.
Retirement
The black stallion spent a long retirement with Freund. In 2016 he followed Jana to her new barn when she left Ferienhof Stucker.
On 8 June 2025 Freund announced that Pearcy passed away. Jana explained to Eurodressage that, "the past year he always had little problems with the belly when the weather changed. Normally we would fix it quickly but now he was really bad."
She added, "I was always afraid of this day, but now unfortunately it has come," said Freund. "I have no words yet to describe how hard it is for me to have to let my best friend Pearcy Pearson leave my side after 32 years. Thank you Pearcy for our great time on earth together."
