Australian Grand Prix rider Warwick McLean will not be competing at the 2026 CDI Munich this weekend. The Tonisvorst (GER) bases rider and his wife were involved in a big traffic accident on the way to the show today, 13 May 2026. Fortunately all came out mostly unscathed.
"We had a massive crash today driving to Munich, so we are not going to start," Warwick's wife Carolina McLean told Eurodressage. "We are all ok and had a lot of luck. Still a bit shaky."
Warwick was supposed to compete his family owned 10-year old KWPN stallion Le Special (by Grey Flanell x Sir Oldenburg) in the CDI 3* Grand Prix.
McLean's lorry got sandwiched when three trucks in front of them one had to do an emergency break. All lorries braked safely but it was the fifth truck in the line that slammed into the one in front and caused a chain collision.
"The traffic came to a quick stop in front of us," Carolina explained. "We had time to stop, as well as also the guy in front of us and two trucks more, but the fifth truck didn’t and drove 88km speed into us, resulting in massive chain reaction."
With only one horse in McLean's big truck, Le Special miraculously came out almost unscathed.

Thanks to the side ramp on their lorry, they were able to load Le Special easily off the truck and into the van to drive the horse back home safely.
"It's a big chock but everyone is okay and we were very lucky."
