Dutch young rider Tooske van der Ven has to say an untimely and devastating goodbye to her international small tour horse Hastrade K.  The 14-year old KWPN mare succumbed to colic.

Hastrade K was by Chinook out of Zastrade (by Rousseau x Farrington). She was bred by Daan Kosters.

Youth Riders Horse

Trained to FEI level by Laura Groeneveld, the chestnut mare became Tooske's youth riders horse and took her into the international arena.

The pair made its CDI debut in Compiegne in May 2023 at junior level and in the next two years competed at CDI's in Deauville, Kronenberg, Le Mans, Tolbert and Ornago, winning two tests in Deauville and Ornago.

In December 2024 they made the transition to Young Riders level in Salzburg. In 2025 and 2026 they showed in Aachen, Compiegne, Deauville, Hagen, Kronenberg and lastly at the CDIO Fontainebleau in April.

Since the spring, Tooske has been competing the 7-year old Hanoverian Freelance (by Furstbischof x Samba Hit).

Untimely Passing

On 30 October law student Tooske van der Ven announced the sudden passing of her mare.

"My heart is broken in ways words could never describe," she wrote. "We tried everything to save you, but it all happened so fast… never even got the chance to say goodbye."

Tooske confirmed to Eurodressage that Hastrade succumbed to colic. "The happiness you brought into my life was beyond measure, and so is the heartbreak of losing you," Tooske added. "You were without a doubt my other half Hastrade."
