Willem Jan Schotte's black FEI horse Goubergh's Ray of Light has been sold to a young rider in the U.S.A. The Oldenburg gelding by Rohdiamant x Akzent II was competed at Intermediaire II level and trained at Grand Prix level.

He showed once in the Intermediaire II scoring 64%.

"It was my last show with him," Schotte explained to Karin de Haan, "It was a deliberate choice to show him once in the Inter II. I competed Ray 2,5 years in the small tour and he knew the entire Grand Prix. He was getting better and better in the end, so I wanted to show him at that level at least one time."

Ray of Light was purchased by Stal Goubergh and Willem Jan Schotte at the Elite Auction in Vechta as a 4-year old. "He could do the extended trot exceptionally well, but otherwise his movements were not very special. Ray was extremely intelligent and eager to work. He could be a bit hot at times, but his temperament was ideal for a dressage horse," Schotte said. The owners never expected the horse to make it to Grand Prix and were even more surprised to find out that he was very gifted for the FEI movements.

Schotte decided to sell Ray of Light because he has lost his motivation to compete a little. "The past four years my other Grand Prix horses have been injured so much, that I lost the ambition to ride to the top in the Grand Prix," Schotte said.
