British equestrian magazine Horse and Hound reported that former international Grand Prix mare Ballaseyr Royale has given birth to a colt. Richard Davison's equine partner Royale, also known as "Bird"
, gave birth to a healthy, bay colt at 2 AM on Monday morning June 12, 2006.
"She was due on 29 May and the vet Gil Riley and Louise Morton of Lingbourne Stud did more pulling than Royale did pushing," Davison told Horse and Hound. "Royale talks to the colt all the time and is a very proud mum."
The dark bay Danish warmblood mare Royale is by Picandt out of Matadie and is owned by American Gwendolyn Meyer. Her colt foal is by Theo von Sadelhoff's KWPN licensed stallion Lingh (by Flemmingh).
Although the colt has not even yet been named, Richard is already aiming him for the British team at the 2016 Olympics. "Even if I'm a skeleton by that point, I will be there," he confessed to a H&H staff member.
