The Oldenburg breeding stallion Royal Olymp (Rohdiamant x Florestan) injured himself severely in a riding accident and it is feared that it will no longer be possible to use him as a competition horse as well as a breeding stallion.
On July 31, 2006, Royal Olymp and his steady rider Ronald Luders were doing their daily schooling at their home yard Kempke Hof in Plaaz. During a pirouette exercise, Royal Olymp stepped on his own hind shoe, panicked and pulled a tendon. "He tore of the cap of the harmstring tendon. All the vets I called say that the hope to fully recover as a riding horse are very slim," owner Ira Denkhaus told Eurodressage. "We're very sad about this because he was doing so nicely last time; he ranked third in the Intermediaire I here at our Mecklenburger championships at Plaaz on 21st July."
The 9-year old Oldenburg Royal Olymp was purchased by Kempke Hof at the Vechta Elite Auction for 260,000 euro. He competed at the Bundeschampionate as a 3-year old (under Johannes Westendarp) and as 5 and 6-year old (under Ronald Luders).
He produced a licensed son from his first crop of foals: Royal Oak (dam by Welt Hit II-Dornpfad xx) sold as promising dressage prospect to Sweden. In 2005 two Mecklenburg branded daughters of Royal Olymp were elected state premium mares. Rialto Star became premium stallion of his approval in fall 2005. Royal Olymp will continue to stand at stud at Kempke Hof
