Former Dutch Grand Prix Team horse Olympic Bo has passed away. The Dutch warmblood mare by Rinaldo x Komeet died last week at age 26 at her owner's stable Stal de Ijzeren Man in Weert, The Netherlands, where she was enjoying her retirement.
The mare had been highly successful in the 1990s under Sjef Janssen, Sven Rothenberger and Gonnelien Rothenberger-Gordijn.
Olympic Bo was trained to Grand Prix level by Sjef Janssen. He competed the mare at the 1991 European Championships in Donaueschingen, Germany, winning team bronze and finishing eight individually. That same year, Janssen placed third at the Dutch Championships. Sven Rothenberger became interested in the mare and purchased her.
Under Sven Rothenberger, Bo achieved individual bronze and team silver at the 1995 European Championships in Mondorf-Les-Bains, Luxembourg, and became second at the 1996 Dutch Dressage Championships. In 1997, the mare sold to Rothenberger's father-in-law Adri Gordijn and she and Gonnelien Rothenberger earned team silver medal at the 1997 European Championships in Verden, Germany. Gonnelien and Bo also finished three times fourth at the Dutch Dressage Championships (1996, 1997, 1998).
After her retirement, Bo was used for embryotransfer. She produced, for instance, the licensed stallion For Fortune (by Future) and the foal Bente, which sold at the Limburg Foal Auction.
