The American Hanoverian Society (AHS) is pleased to announce that a Young Jumper and Dressage Horse Training Symposium conducted by Stefan Blanken, will be held at the world-class Devonwood Equestrian Centre in Sherwood
, Ore., on Saturday, February 5, 2011, from 11:30am to 5:30pm. The training symposium is in conjunction with the Society’s Annual Membership Meeting.
Stefan Blanken is a leading trainer of young dressage and jumping horses in Germany and winner of major German shows and championships. The informative event will demonstrate presenting Hanoverians in-hand, as well as the selection and training of jumper and dressage horses to FEI levels. In addition, local wineries will be offering “Taste of Oregon” wine tasting during the event, showcasing the region’s excellent Pinor Noir wines and other wines. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, Stefan Blanken will be replacing the previously announced symposium headliner Sue Blinks.
Blanken, the winner of the German Professional Rider Championship in 1993, was also a German Hanoverian Verband Auction Team rider in Verden, Germany from 1993 through 1996. He has trained and ridden horses to championships in both jumping and dressage at the Bundeschampionate (German Young Horse Championships) in Warendorf, Germany. Successful horses trained by Blanken include Nadine Capellman’s FEI dressage horse, Elvis; ERA Wunderschöne, 2009 Bundeschampionate Reserve Champion 3 Year Old Dressage Mare/Geldings; Grisella, Champion Four-Year-Old at the Hanoverian Show Jumping Championships at Dobrock; Comtess, Champion at the Ratje-Niebuhr Show and Dancing Queen, Champion Mare at the 2008 Louis-Wiegels Hanoverian Mare Show in Germany. He also trained Wakensho, sold at the 2007 Verden Elite Auction for 100,000 Euro and bred, owned and trained Lavinia by Loxley II/Wonderful, sold at the 2010 Elite Verden Auction for 73,000 Euro to France.
A highly anticipated event each year, the 2011 AHS Annual Meeting will be held February 4-6 at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower in Portland, Oregon. The meeting will offer three days of educational programs and seminars on various aspects of the equine industry. Attendees will also be updated on the work of various AHS committees and will have the opportunity to brainstorm marketing ideas. In conjunction with the meeting, a silent auction and catered dinner will be held to honor the Society’s Year-End Awards winners in competition.
The AHS host hotel, the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower, is conveniently located downtown within the heart of the city, only a block from the MAX Light Rail system providing transportation to and from the Portland International Airport in just 30 minutes, as well as surrounding cities. Pre-registration for auditing the Saturday Symposium with Stefan Blanken is $20 and is open to AHS members and non-members alike. Registration for the entire meeting is $175 and will be open through January 22, with a discounted hotel rate available for reservations until January 20. This fee includes the Stefan Blanken Symposium, all educational programs, the awards banquet, and the increasingly famous silent auction, which offers shopping and entertainment well worth the entire registration fee!
