Seven judges as well as the Judging Supervisory Panel will be taking position round the competition ring at the 2011 World Cup Finals in Leipzig, set to start in three days on 27 April 2011. The Finals will be the first official event where the new rule of seven judges and the JSP will go into effect since the rule change in January 2011.
After a year of testing different judging system at for instance Rotterdam and Aachen, the new order is now in place. "Not for the Olympic Games though, because the rules of the IOC count there," said Frank Kemperman, president of the FEI Dressage Committee.
O-judge Katrina Wüst, who was closely involved in changing round the judging system, believes that seven judges will reduce the influence of the individual judges. "We'll rule out a source of error with that. If it wil be worth it, we'll have to see" she commented. "It can't hurt because the judges are already on the sport and don't cost extra."
The Judging supervisory panel will be reviewing the points of the judges for mistakes. "Like the line judges in soccer," Wust added, "to improve the quality of judging."
