Barroso Sold to Caroline Hatlapa

The Dutch-German owned and Belgian ridden international small tour horse Barroso has been sold to Austrian Grand Prix rider Caroline Hatlapa as her future prospect.

Barroso is an 8-year old Dutch warmblood stallion by Bordeaux x Saros xx x Folio, bred by Mr van Kraaij.

He was owned by Paul Schockemohle in partnership with Joop van Uytert.

In 2015 the stallion was ridden by Isabel Freese-Bache, but in 2016 the 5-year old moved to Belgium to be trained by Belgian Larissa Pauluis. She took him up to Prix St Georges level.

Pauluis and Barroso represented Belgium at the 2016 World Young Horse Championships and finished 8th in the consolation finals. The duo went on to win the 6-year old division at the 2016 French AND Belgian Young Horse Championships. They were again selected for the 2017 World Championships and landed fifth place in the consolation finals.

Barroso apparently sold at the 2017 Excellent Dressage Sales in Ermelo in August 2017 as it was reported he sold for the top price of 145,000 euro to French investors, but the horse never moved from Pauluis' stable. In fact, she went on to train and compete him. At the 2017 Belgian Young Horse Championships, they got silver. The pair made its small tour debut at the 2018 CDI Le Mans, where they finished third in the Kur to Music.

Austrian Grand Prix rider Caroline Hatlapa has now acquired Barroso as her FEI horse.

The soon to be 60-year old Hatlapa has not competed on the international scene for the past twenty years! In the 1990s she was successful aboard Eleonore Hahn's Trakehner bred Merlin (by Arrak x Sonnenglanz x Donauwind), representing Austria at the 1995 and 1997 European Championships, 1996 Olympic Games and 1998 World Equestrian Games.

Hatlapa has been living in Germany since the 1980s and moved to Borghorst Manor in Osdorf, Germany, in 1997. She has continued to compete at national level in Germany ever since. She was seen in the national arena with horses such as Don Jos, Persiano TSF, Ocanjo, and Abamo Duke of Borghorst. Her last show was in June 2016. In 2004 Caroline divorced her husband Hubertus Hatlapa and since 2009 she has been living with Hamburg entrepreneur Andreas Odefey, who is a co-investor in Barroso.
