The treasured Oldenburg licensed stallion Tomahawk has left his California home to return to Germany and stand at stud for the 2021 breeding season. Tomahawk will be available through Martin Determann's station in Vechta, Germany.

Tomahawk is a 2009 born Swedish warmblood by Tailormade Temptation out of Sigma (by Sandro Hit x Master x Maraton).

He is bred by Lena Nystrom and owned by Jamie White from Los Angeles, California.

Licensing Crowd Favourite

Tomahawk was licensed at the 2011 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing, where he became the clear favourite of the crowd receiving applause with each presentation.

His quality, potential and appeal were confirmed at the auction following the licensing, where Tomahawk sold as the absolute price highlight and one of the auction record holders after a long bidding duel. For 800,000 euro the young Tomahawk moved into American hands.

He completed his 70-day stallion performance testing in Schlieckau, where he scored 9 for walk, trot and canter, 8 for rideability, 8.5 for character and willingness to work His total dressage score was 8.58 points, the second highest dressage score in the group.

In 2013 he was approved for Hanoverian breeding and at the end of the year he was proclaimed reserve champion in the Oldenburg Main Premium ring.

Maker's Mark

Texas Tokio, Oldenburg Saddle Licensing Champion
Tomahawk was carefully trained and developed to FEI level in dressage and only briefly stood up for stud in 2012 and 2013. However, the offspring he has produced so far clearly show a maker's mark!

Tomahawk is a modern, athletic stallion with an ideal conformation. He has a strong topline, long legs, uphill neck and a gorgeous face; traits he passes on to his progeny.

With his small crop of offspring, Tomahawk has achieved stunning results. The German Equestrian Federation has only 56 offspring registered for sport, 21 are broodmares and he sired no less than 3 licensed sons!

The Danish bred Texas Tokio became the 2017 Oldenburg saddle licensing champion in Vechta and sold at auction for 100,000 euro to Wilfried and Ursula Bechtolsheimer. The licensed Tallahassee/Tiago M (by Tomahawk x Samarant) sold for 82,000 euro to Tina von Briel at the 2017 South German Stallion Licensing auction. The third licensed son is an Oldenburg registered Tomahawk x Dr. Doolittle, approved at the 2015 Mecklenburg Stallion Licensing.

Even as a dam sire, Tomahawk is now making headlines. The licensed stallion Zico (by Zackerey x Tomahawk) sold as foal for 37,000 euro in Luhmuhlen and then sold again as a 2.5 year old colt to Helgstrand Dressage and Hanni Toosbuy Kasprzak, who had him approved for breeding at the 2020 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing.

Producing for Sport

Tomahawk not only produces top breeding stallions, but make an even bigger impression in sport, stamping his offspring with the gift for dressage. Tara (by Tomahawk x Hotline) finished 10th in the Brilliant Ring at the 2018 Oldenburg Elite Mare Show and sold to Switzerland for 110,000 euro at the 2018 Oldenburg Autumn Elite Auction.  Ruditoma (by Tomahawk x Sandro Hit) was selected for to the 2016 Oldenburg Elite Mare Show and sold for 70,000 euro at auction to Sweden.

At the 2019 Bundeschampionate  Tom's Diamond (Kira Wulferding), Tomahawk's Girl (Lisa Maria Koch), Tiffany (Tanja Lammers) and Tatonka (Eva Marie Siemer) were successfully shown. In France international young horse rider Julien Vincent is training Toogood Tobetrue (by Tomahawk) up the levels. At the 2020 Bundeschampionate Tom Jones KR (Nicole Vater) placed 6th in the 4-year old Finals and Tomahawk's Girl (Lisa Maria Koch) was 10th in the 6-year old qualifier. Tara was selected to represent Germany at the 2020 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden (event got cancelled due to corona)

"With Tomahawk's proven progeny there has been an xxciting renewed interest in him," Jamie White told Eurodressage. "We are extremely grateful to the Family Determann for the years of friendship, support and this great opportunity. This is a wonderful new chapter for us and the breeders to come back to Tomahawk and breed their next champion! We are looking forward to better times soon to meet with old friends and new."

Determann is thrilled to have added Tomahawk to his stallion roster for 2021.

"Tomahawk convinces with his three very good basic gaits, which were rewarded with scores of 9 at his 70-day performance test," said Martin. "He swings over the back, is elastic in the body and has much shoulder freedom. In addition he also has a super character, which makes the daily work a pleasure. From a breeding perspective, his offspring have shown very good riding horse qualities."

White agrees and added that, "his daughter Tara was the only horse to score a 10 for trot in her age group at the 2020 Bundeschampionate last September.
