The Westfalian licensed breeding stallion Ehrenpreis has passed away on 18 April 2023. He was 22 years old.

Ehrenpreis was by Ehrentusch out of Riva (by Rubinstein I x Akzent II x Furioso II) and bred by Hubert Franzen in Marl.

Licensed

Reared by Heike and Wilhelm Strunk in Bochum,  Ehrenpreis was licensed at the 2003 Westfalian Stallion Licensing in Munster-Handorf and sold to NRW State Stud in Warendorf there.

He did his 30-day performance test in the spring of 2004 and in the autumn of that year did to the 70-day testing in Warendorf and scored 102.52 points for dressage and 107.24 points for show jumping to finish on a total of 105.87 points.

Sport

Ehrenpreis' sport career was very brief. He only competed between 2006 and 2008.

Under Martin Stamkötter he made his show debut at A-levle as a 5-year old in 2006. In 2007 he did a few local L-level tests and in 2008 he showed in one M-level and one S-level test.

He was shown under saddle in the Warendorf stallion parades as well as on the long lines, during which he showed piaffe and passage.

Legacy

"He was one of the cornerstones of the Warendorf state stud stallion population for two decades," the state stud communicated. "His extraordinary quality of movement, willingness to perform, natural rideability and his masculine composure made him an outstanding representative of the important Adeptus bloodline in the NRW State Stud Warendorf via Ehrentusch."

Ehrenpreis was not an incredibly popular stallion with the breeders though and only sired one licensed son (Ehrenvoll). Seventy-six of his daughters are registered as broodmare with the German equestrian federation and 10 of them became state premium mare. The German FN has 217 offspring registered for sport and 9 of them have competed at S-level

Remarkably one offspring truly stood out in sport: Isabell Werth's Emilio (by Ehrenpreis x Cacir AA), bred by Wilhelm Strunk. He competes at international Grand Prix level and has earned more than half a million euro in prize money. Other offspring in sport are Cosima von Fircks' young riders horse Easy Fellow (by Ehrenpreis x Ferragamo), Magdalena Jura's Grand Prix horse Emilio (by Ehrenpreis x Maraschino), and Bianca Kasselmann's Grand Prix mare Escada (by Ehrenpreis x Donnerschlag)
