The recently licensed KWPN stallion Pernod RS2 has passed away. The 3-year old colt did not survive a colic attack.

Pernod RS2 was by Tørveslettens Sylvester out of  2016 KWPN Mare Champion Iveniz Texel (by Negro x Krac C). He was bred and owned by Saskia and Jacques Lemmens of RS2 Dressage.

Prisco

The stallion was originally named Prisco and entered the 2023 KWPN Stallion Licensing under his birth name.

He was named premium stallion as part of a group of seven.

He became the high scoring stallion at the 2023 KWPN Spring stallion performance test in Ermelo, scoring a total of 85.5 points with 9 for walk, 8 for trot, 9 for canter, 8 for suppleness, 8.5 for self carriage, rideability and potential for dressage.

The KWPN licensing renamed him Pernod RS2 instead of sticking to the breeder's choice.

Colic

One week ago, RS2 Dressage announced that it was pulling Pernod from stud duty to give the young colt the needed time to rest, develop and mature.

Yesterday, 12 July, the owners announced the untimely death of the stallion

"Over a week ago we decided to pull Pernod RS2 from stud duty to give him the time and rest he needed to get stronger and more developed but a few days after that decision he got struck by severe colic," RS2 stated. "We did really everything in our power to save him but unfortunately he couldn't win this fight. Life is so unfair sometimes, he was such a talented and super kind stallion with a bright future ahead of him."
