Iconic Love FD became the champion of the 2023 Westfalian Elite Mare Show in Munster-Handorf on Friday 27 July 2023.

A group of 47 dressage and 17 jumping bred Westfalians competed at the breed championships, which saw rain showers and sunshine throughout the day.

Eleven dressage mares made it to the final champion's ring to compete for the title. The judges were breeding directors Katrin Tosberg and Thomas Münch, the Westfalian society's chairman Ralf Johanshon as well as Claudia Meckmann-Dorsel and Gerd Könemann.

Iconic Love FD

The 3-year old Iconic Love FD (by Ibiza x Fürstenball x San Remo x Wolkenstein II), bred and owned by Frank Dahlhoff, was named champion mare. This large-framed and mature black mare did an outstanding mare performance test with a final score of 9.0, and at the German Mare Championships in Lienen, where she already became German reserve mare champion.

"It's a breeder's dream," Frank Dahlhoff took to Instagram. "We are overjoyed. We want to thank the team of Riding and Training stable Märter who presented Iconic in top form. Hendrik and Niklas Schulte Märter did a super presentation."

V-Line Rules Westfalia, Furstenball Continues to Make his Mark

The reserve champion is Van der Ley (by Vaderland /x Fürstenball), bred and owned by ZG Fockenberg. This mare also did a performance test with a score of 9.0.

No less than three mares were positioned in third place with the committee members unable to properly sort them. The three third-placed mares are Valdemossa de Colonia (by Vaderland x Sir Donnehall), bred by ZG Kellerwessel; Vaderland's full sister Valencia (by Vitalis x Krack C), bred by Carla Bunt-Crum and owned by Henrike Hasenpatt-Kampmeyer; and thge 4-year old Face of Magic S (by Fürstenball x Argentinus), bred and owned by Josef and Birgit Simon.

The show jumping mare champion was Hera (by Hickstead White x Cornado), bred by Heinrich-Bernhard Wulf.
