The Westfalian licensed breeding stallion Florianus has passed away. He was 26 years old
Florianus was a 1998 born stallion by Florestan out of Die Dame (by Damenstolz x Rigoletto). He was bred by Martin Dodt.
Ingo Pape
Florianus became a premium stallion at the 2000 Westfalian stallion licensing and was owned by Ingo Pape at the time. He did his 70-day stallion performance text in Munster-Handorf in the summer of 2001 and scored 124.9à points in dressage and 96.19 points in show jumping to finish on a total of 118,209
He participated at the 2003 Bundeschampionate in Warendorf under Susan Draper-Pape. Pape's in-house rider Canadian Gillian Duke (now Petersen) showed Florianus at the 2004 World Championships for young dressage horses in Verden, Germany.
As of 2005, Karin Rehbein took care of the training of Florianus and brought him to Grand Prix. For three years he was standing at stud at Gestut Gronwohldhof until 2008. His last competition was at national GP level in April 2008. She showed him internationally at CDI's in Braunschweig, Lingen, Fritzens, Falsterbo and Neumunster with scores in the mid sixties.
Iron Spring Farm
In the late spring of 2008 Florianus sold to Mary Alice Malone of Iron Spring Farm in Coatesville, PA, U.S.A.
He made his international show debut under Belinda Nairn-Wertman at the CDI Raleigh in May 2009, scoring 61.617% in the Grand Prix. Three years later Catherine Malone showed him once internationally in the World Cup Qualifier at Devon, where they were fifth with 62.851%.
“Florianus was perfect and had a tremendous amount of heart,” remembered Catherine Malone. “He took care of me and was a wonderful horse to step up to Grand Prix.” The pair won Grand Prix classes together and Catherine made her debut at the CDI-W level at Dressage at Devon, earning nice ribbons.
Legacy
In Germany he sired 1 licensed son (For Set) and four state premium daughters.
Florianus was imported by ISF in 2008. “We were looking for a breeding stallion for the farm as well as a performance stallion to show,” said Meghan deGaray, breeding manager at ISF. “Flori was the perfect fit. He had an excellent international Grand Prix record with Karin Rehbein and was known for his nice character. We trusted his genetics because the Florestan I line is recognized for its rideability and good temperament, which is very important to us here at Iron Spring Farm.”
As a breeding stallion in the USA he sired the CDI3* Grand Prix winner Rhythm and Blues (Florencia B), the approved Westfalian Grand Prix stallion For Set, and Garth ISF, an international vaulting horse who was Top 8 at the 2023 FEI World Cup Final. Florianus was also a notable sire of hunters, jumpers and eventing horses. In 2022, he was third in the USEF Eventing Sires ranking.
