Americans Go Christmas Shopping at 2024 Oldenburg Special Edition Auction

American buyers did some Christmas shopping at the 2024 Oldenburg Special Edition auction in Vechta on Sunday 8 December 2024 securing six horses from a collection of 42.

The Special edition included 2.5-year old stallion prospects, young horses, as well as trained dressage horses. 

U.S. Bound

The best seller was Mirage (by Millennium x Fürst Romancier x Lauries Crusador xx). Auctioneer  Christoph Rowold struck the hammer at €85,000 and a long-time client and Grand Prix rider from Florida, USA, bought him. The eight-year-old mare is bred by Beate and Berthold Schmidt and was owned by Valencia Caballo SL from Spain.  

Six horses are US-bound, four of them are jumpers, including the most expensive showjumper Greta DB (by Glasgow van’t Merelsnest x For Pleasure), which sold for 40,000 euro. This five-year-old mare will now call New York home.

The one other dressage horse that was bought by American was Moses (by Morricone I x Plaisir d'Amour) for 16,500 €. He will also move to Wellington, FL.

Australia

Sir Weihe GS
The second most expensive horse was the licensed stallion Sir Weihe GS (by Sir Donnerhall I x Apache - Don Schufro) bred by Bettina Hinnemann and owned by Gorodok Agro Llc, Ukraine. He sold for €73,500 to Australia. His dam, Aweih, is a champion mare and a daughter of Weihegold OLD. His half brother, Extra Gold H by Escolar, was the 2021 Westfalian licensing champion.

Also going to Australia is Fleur de ma Vie (by Total Hope x Feedback) for 31,500 €

Global Interest

Folkens Feldrose (by For Dance x Pik Noir) stays in Germany for 48,000 €.

Four dressage horses go to Hungary:  Superior (by Secret x Sir Donnerhall) for 47,500 €, Spot-On E (by Next Level x  Flemmingh) for 27,000 €, Vivienne (by Vitalis x Sandro Hit) for 20,000 €, and Thor (by Taurus x Floriscount) for 13,500 €.

Spaniards bought Elano (by Escamillo x Dancing Hit) for 20,000 €. A Mexican did a good deal on Felix Austria (by For Austria x Wolkenstein II) for 8,000 €

Fleur de ma Vie
A remarkable buy was made by a client from Tanzania: Daria (by For Dance x Stedinger) sold to to the African continent for 27,500 €

The Danish bred 2.5 year old colt Lavignon Byager (by Las Vegas x Franklin x Michelangelo) was bought back by the owner for 14,500 €

Conclusion of the Auction Year

Eighteen out of 42 auction candidates were purchased by Oldenburg enthusiasts from abroad. They will bring joy to new owners in the USA (6), Hungary (5), Australia (2), Lithuania (1), Mexico (1), the Netherlands (1), Spain (1) and Tanzania (1).

The average price for the riding horses at the 12th Oldenburger Special Edition was approximately €28,000, while the youngster averaged around €12,000, generating a total revenue of €1,065,000.

“The 12th Oldenburg Special Edition marked a successful conclusion to a prosperous auction year, giving us confidence and optimism for the year ahead,” reported Roland Metz, Managing Director of the Oldenburger Pferde-Vermarktungs GmbH.
