It is with great disappointment that the Canadian Dressage Team announces the resignation of their National Coach, Mr. Uwe Sauer, of Hamburg, Germany.

Mr. Sauer has resigned partially due to time commitments, as he felt that his short trips to Canada did not allow him to completely fulfill his responsibility of developing and preparing the talents of our Canadian horses and riders.

In the one year he acted as National Coach, Mr. Sauer demonstrated a high level of expertise and was an invaluable asset to the Canadian Dressage Team, leading them to both individual and team bronze medals at the 1997 North American Dressage Championships in Maryland. His resignation is a great loss not only for the Team but for the dressage community as a whole.

Highly-respected internationally, Mr. Sauer was a member of Germany's gold medal winning teams at the 1982 World Championships and the 1984 Olympic Games. He and his wife, Sabine, currently operate a successful training stable in Hamburg.
