The atmosphere at the fourth edition of Classical Sales Warendorf rocked. “We are delighted with the way the auction went,” said Pferdewirtschaftsmeister Fabian Scholz, who initiated the auction together with Grand Prix trainer Susanne Miesner. “The indoor school was full, with around 800 people in attendance, including several famous faces, and we were able to sell the horses in a fair and transparent way for prices in line with current market values.”
The top price of 66,000 euros was paid by a German bidder from the Hessen region for Summer Night, a five-year-old Damon Hill x Kostolany mare. The four-year-old Desperados x Brentano II gelding, Tequila, changed hands for 55,000 euros. “We were delighted to see many happy clients,” enthused Susanne Miesner. One of those was Austria’s Thomas Haller, who secured the six-year-old Ehrentusch x Ferragamo gelding See You Later. “We are especially thrilled with this sale, since Thomas has qualified for the Paralympic Games in London with a horse he bought at a previous CSW auction, and he was now looking for a youngster just like See You Later,” said Fabian Scholz.
The fourth edition of Classical Sales Warendorf included 22 horses from different breeding areas. Two were withdrawn from the auction, and 19 horses eventually sold, with the majority remaining in Germany, although some found new homes in Canada, France and Austria. This year’s auction theme, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’, ensured a show with fun and entertainment, besides the horses: cool tunes, an Elvis Presley impersonator and even a pink stretch limousine.
The filly offered for auction by breeder Stephan Borgmann, with all proceeds of the sale going to the Christoph Metzelder Foundation, will not have far to travel – the filly sold to Osnabrück for 5,500 euros. This money will help the Foundation with its charity work for children and young people. The filly’s optimum growth will be ensured by Derby, horse nutrition specialists, who kindly donated 600 euros worth of feed.
The average price of a CSW horse was 26,600 euros. “We did not have any prices in excess of 100,000 euros, but on the other hand, we were able to sell the horses in a fair and transparent way,” concluded Susanne Miesner.
