U.S. North American Young Riders gold medallist Brandi Roenick has acquired Andrea Kersten-Muller's 7-year old Oldenburg mare Apassionata (by Sir Donnerhall I x Friedenfurst) as a Grand Prix prospect.
Apassionata is bred and originally owned by Ludger Buehrmann. The mare qualified for the 2009 Oldenburg Elite Mare Show in Rastede. Under Kersten-Muller she was the reserve champion in the 4-year old division at the 2010 Bundeschampionate in Warendorf. The mare competed in the 2011 and 2012 Bundeschampionate qualifiers but didn't make it back to Warendorf for the Finals.
Trained by Steffen Peters, American Young Riders' Champion Roenick has been competing Weltino's Magic and Pretty Lady with great success on the American Young Riders scene. The young rider is based in Scottsdale, AZ, but stays with Peters in San Diego to further her dressage career.
Brandi's parents Tracy and Jeremy Roenick as well as some supporters acquired Apassionata as a future Grand Prix horse. The 18-year old rider will stay in Germany for the summer or even longer to get acquainted with the mare.
"She is so eager to please and take care of her rider,” Brandi told Dressage News. "She is so motivated to do everything right and make sure at the end of the day she has done the job correctly. She is so talented. and so amazingly kind to be around on the ground and just so kind to ride."
Roenick is aiming to ride the mare she nicknamed "Pia" at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
