Laura Conz' and Marcela Krinke-Susmelj's Russian warmblood Fibrin passed away on Monday 9 June 2014 at age 25. The bay gelding suffered from a heart condition and was euthanized.
Laura Conz and Fibrin were Italy's top performing pair in the early 2000s. They ranked 13th overall at the 2001 European Dressage Championships in Verden, Germany, and continued strongly in 2002 with good performances at the CDI-W San Patrignano, CDI-W Neumunster, CDI Lipica and CDI-W Paris, qualifying them for the 2002 World Cup Finals in 's Hertogenbosch, where they finished 12th in the Kur to Music. Conz and Fibrin were the 2001 Italian Grand Prix Champion and earned bronze at the 2002 Italian Kur Championships.
In 2003 Fibrin sold to Marcela Krinke-Susmelj's new sponsor at the time, Irene Meyer. Marcela and Fibrin competed from 2003 till 2005. They showed in Milan, Frankfurt, Piber, Barzago, Berne, Lipica, Stadl Paura, Kaposvar, . The pair ranked 7th in the freestyle at the 2004 Swiss Dressage Championships and they represented Switzerland at the 2005 European Dressage Championships in Hagen.
Fibrin was returned to Conz and owner Giulia Baccerini upon the horse's retirement in 2007. Conz initially still rode the gelding a bit to keep him in shape but at the end of 2008 he was fully retired to the field in Serravalle, Italy.
"He enjoyed the last years in a big field with his friends," Conz told Eurodressage. "I'm very thankful to have had the honour to ride such a great horse full of personality. Giulia Baccerini was with him until the end."
