Third time's a charm for Jorinde Verwimp. The Belgian young rider finally won the Belgian Talent of the Year competition on Thursday 26 December 2014 at the CDI Mechelen, after being nominated for the third, consecutive year.
On the first day of competition in Mechelen, Verwimp received a trophy and a 7,500 euro cheque, which she can spend on training and furthering her equestrian career.
"I will probably spend the money on media training and physical training," said a beaming Verwimp in Mechelen.
Verwimp, who won kur bronze at the 2014 European Young Riders Championships in Arezzo, Italy, the title at the 2014 Belgian Young Riders Championships and who made a successful transition to Under 25 Grand Prix level, beat Belgian jumper rider Pieter Clemens in a public and expert vote. Verwimp is trained by Anky van Grunsven.
This is only the second time that a dressage rider won the Talent of the Year competition organized by the Flemmish equestrian federation VLP. In 2010 WEG team member Julie de Deken was the first dressage recipient of the title.
