Franklin, Eye Catcher, Dark President Win Third Leg of 2013-2014 KWPN Stallion Competition in Zuidbroek

The rising 5-year old Franklin, the coming 6-year old Eye Catcher and the soon to be 7-year old Dark President were the winners of the third leg in the 2014-2015 KWPN Stallion Competition held in Zuidbroek, The Netherlands, on Wednesday 7 January 2015. The Zuidbroek leg was judged by Johan Hamminga, Clara Dekker and Monique Peutz.

The youngest stallions, 4-year olds turning 5 in the spring, contested an L-level test. The Danish based Spaniard Severo Jurado Lopez won aboard the bay Franklin (by Ampere x Ferro) with 88.5, scoring a 10 for the powerful trot work. Norwegian Isabel Bache and the black Van Vivaldi (by Vivaldi x Olivi) finished second with 83 points. Kirsten Brouwer and Ferdeaux (by Bordeaux x Ferro) tied in second place.

"Franklin is a stallion with a lot of quality but he's preventing himself from coming to full potential. He moves with incredible technique and articulation in the joints," judge Hamminga commented. "Ferdeaux was a bit tense but nicely moved from behind to the front. Van Vivaldi scored with his lovely canter."

In the M-level division for horses that will turn 6 in 2015 the chestnut stallion Eye Catcher (by Vivaldi x Partout) topped the leader board, scoring 92 points under Kirsten Brouwer. The stallion scored a 10 for trot. The runner up was Marieke van der Putten on the black Dutch bred El Capone ( by UB40 x OO Seven) with 89 points. This stallion stood out with his expression and suppleness and got a 9.5 for trot. Diederik van Silfhout and Expression (by Vivaldi x Vincent) landed third place with 88 points. The bay KWPN stallion was quiet in the contact, had a clear walk and showed good potential for collection in canter.

"This class had such amazing quality," said judge Johan Hamminga. "It was a pleasure to judge. Eye Catcher was uphill in every step. El Capone had a very well carried canter and Expression showed himself as a happy athlete."

At Z-level Hans Peter Minderhoud and the black Dutch bred Dark President were in the winning mood and scored 86 points to claim victory. The Wynton x G Ramiro Z offspring was shown by Minderhoud at the first leg in Ermelo but could not impress. Then stable rider Marieke van der Putten took over and won the second leg in Roosendaal and now Minderhoud found his groove and took the trophy in Zuidbroek. Hamminga praised the stallion for his strong hind leg and movement mechanism. Diederik van Silfhout and Cupido (by Daddy Cool x Jazz) were the runners-up. The brand new combination executed good flying changes. Emmelie Scholtens and Desperado (by Vivaldi x Havidoff) were third with 84 points and they tied with Madeleine Witte-Vrees on the rising 8-year old Charmeur (by Florencio x Jazz).
