Ellen Schulten-Baumer's career making, first international Grand Prix horse Gina Royal OLD has been euthanized on 26 April 2015. The mare was 24 years old and suffering from old age.
"My big, crazy girl Gina Royal has passed," said Schulten-Baumer. "I'm grateful for the fun times we spent together, the many successes and the unforgettable moments."
Gina Royal was born in 1991 at Walter Henning's stable. She was by Grosso Z out of Brisca (by Brentano I x Nebelwerfer x Agami xx).
She did her first shows as a 4-year old in 1995 under Detlef and Claudia Nesemann but was also briefly competed by Jörg Henning. Detlef competed her until 1997.
Gina Royal was sold at the Vechta Elite auction in the autumn on 1997 to Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer. Isabell Werth, his head trainer at the time, competed the mare at Prix St Georges level at two shows in Berlin and Munster in 1998. One year later Ellen Schulten-Baumer took over the ride. In 2000 the duo made its debut at Grand Prix level in Leverkusen.
Schulten-Baumer's career highlights on Gina Royal include winning the Piaff Forderpreis for German Under 25 riders twice and the Hamburg Dressage Derby. In 2006 German U25 rider Anna Katharina Luttgen competed the mare on the Piaff Forderpreis circuit.
Ellen and Gina Royal OLD rode their last international together at the 2007 CDI Dortmund, where they finished fourth in the Grand Prix with 67.500% and sixth in the Special with 67.600%. The mare's last show was the Hamburg Dressage Derby in May 2007.
Gina Royal sold to the Rinnen family after the Derby in 2007 and served as schoolmaster for Karin Rinnen before being fully retired.
