The 11-year old Swedish warmblood licensed stallion Dalwhinnie has been operated on following a severe injury. His rehabilitation will take at least one year and his future as a sport horse is very uncertain.

In late September the black stallion became quite unbalanced in his movements and after a veterinary exam a trauma was found in the facet joint in his neck. The injury most likely happened in his stall or in the pasture.

Dalwhinnie has undergone surgery on Friday 23 October at the Helsingborg equine clinic where American surgical specialist Barrie Grant, assisted by Swede Mads Kristoffersen, stabilized the neck vertebra so the horse can regain full mobility.

Dalwhinnie (by De Niro x Rohdiamant x Amiral) is bred by Birgitta and Torsten Hansson and co-owned by the breeders in partnership with Västra Hoby Stuteri.

"We chose to do the operation to rescue Dalwhinnie's breeding career," the owners told Swedish magazine Hippson. "It is very uncertain if he will get back to competition in the future.  We and rider Jeanna Högberg are obviously very sad for what happened. Dalwhinnie was in full form, ready to compete when the injury occurred. We had big competition plans for this and upcoming seasons."

The Swedish warmblood stallion was introduced to interntional competition by Mattias Jansson. The duo began competing at small tour level at the 2012 CDI Mechelen and continued in 2013 with starts in Drachten, Fot and Odense. Since then the horse has not been out to an international show. Jeanna Hogberg had taken over the training of the horse.
