Elizabeth “Betsy” Juliano was saluted for her dedication to the sport of dressage when Carol Cohen presented her with the Global Dressage Visionary award at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida. Juliano was presented with the stunning Global Dressage Visionary Award trophy during the CDI4* week of competition that was sponsored by her own Havensafe Farm.
“Betsy has been very involved for many years with dressage. “She has been a great inspiration to young riders and the team as well,” Cohen said, adding that Juliano supports Team USA through the United States Equestrian Team Foundation as well as the dressage pipeline that helps nurture and produce up-and-coming horse and rider athletes for the team. She is also a visionary who stood behind the Adequan Global Dressage Festival from its inception, and her Havensafe Farm was the title sponsor of the show series’ Week 10 this year.
It was Juliano’s background in business that first encouraged her to give so much support toward something she loves. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Litigation Management, Inc. She founded the company in 1984, and her staff of more than 150 medical and legal professionals helps serve defendant corporations, insurers, and their counsel by providing medical information management services when they are defending product liability litigation. “I started a business of my own in 1984 and there were many people who were helpful to me and gave me advice and mentored me when I really needed it,” she explained. “I learned over the years that when I had the opportunity, finally, to be able to return that favor to people, that was something that I very much wanted to do.”
Juliano was the first in her family to develop a passion for equestrian sports. “In order to afford my riding lessons, I needed to work,” she said. “I got the opportunity to interface with people who were very kind to me and mentored me and gave me opportunities I would never have had. So now, many, many, many years later, I’ve had my business for quite a while and it’s done well enough that I’ve been able to do many things that I love. The main one is to be involved with horses. I own them, I ride them, and I compete, but over the years what has become most important to me is to do what I can to help the team for the United States.”
Juliano first became involved in supporting Team USA about 8 years ago when she began hosting clinics at Havensafe Farm in Wellington. “I got to know the team riders who came to the clinics. They eventually rode at Gladstone for the Festival of Champions, and were selected for the team for the 2010 World Equestrian Games. I had the opportunity to watch them come full circle from the try-outs and the work that went into it to the synergy that develops when a team is working together. Each individual rider who makes a team is a good rider, of course, but the team together is what really makes us proud as a country. That is something that has been a commitment of mine ever since then.”
Cohen said that when she is choosing a recipient for her Global Dressage Visionary Award, she considers people who she knows have made an incredible difference in the sport of dressage. “You are absolutely one of those people in the United States,” she told Juliano.
Cohen, a real estate advisor in Wellington, established the Global Dressage Visionary Award to recognize dressage enthusiasts who have contributed to the growth and promotion of dressage. She has been rewarding dressage visionaries during every CDI week of competition at the 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival. Cohen herself is a sponsor of the 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival, and has also been instrumental in forming a leadline class at the show to let young riders experience riding in the international arena and to inspire a passion for all things equestrian. The finale leadline class was held this past weekend, prior to the CDI4* Grand Prix Freestyle. The class featured 11 future athletes and was judged by Robert Dover, Arlene “Tuny” Page, and Janet Foy.
