Kirsten Brouwer and the Hanoverian stallion Ferguson will not be competing at the 2016 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo on 29 - 31 July 2016. The FEI has decided not to grant any wild cards this year.
Brouwer and the liver chestnut Ferguson (by Floriscount x Lauries Crusador xx) participated in the German WCYH selection trials in Warendorf but did not qualify through the standard process. Dutch media attending the trial announced that the German Equestrian Federation requested a wild card from the FEI and got it.
Today the Dutch rider announced that she will not be competing in Ermelo with the Hanoverian after all as the FEI did not accept wild cards due to the high number of entries from countries world wide.
"Due to the high number of entries from various countries, the FEI has decided not to grant any wild cards," Brouwer wrote on her Facebook page. "This means that I can't take my top horse Ferguson to the World Championships. It's a great pity because he's in top form. Also Germany regrets that they have to leave a candidate at home in this way."
The FEI confirmed to Eurodressage on Tuesday 26 July that "the FEI has never granted a wildcard for the World Breeding Championships in Ermelo. As the FEI did
not issue any wildcards the FEI did not have to cancel any."
