German Young Rider Team and Junior Semmieke Rothenberger Nominated for Honourable Distinctions

Five German junior and young riders in dressage have been selected for major distinctions and awards this year. The German YR team will be honoured at the German Sport Aid gala, while Semmieke Rothenberger is in the running for the Best Young European Athlete.

The German Sport Aid society annually honours Germany's top young athletes who stood out that year at a World or European Championships. At a special gala ceremony at the Pantheon Theater Halle Beuel in Bonn, Germany, on 7 October 2016, the German Sport Aid will reward these stand-out athletes.

The 14-headed jury have nominated this year's German young athletes who stood out in a team or individual competition. For dressage the German gold medal winning young riders team has been selected. The riders are Anna-Christina Abbelen (Kempen), Leonie Richter (Bad Essen), Anna-Lisa Theile (Bühren) and Jil-Marielle Becks (Senden). They won team gold at the 2016 European Young Riders Championships in Oliva Nova, Spain in July.

German junior rider Semmieke Rothenberger has been nominaed by the German Olympic Sport Federation (DOSB) for the 2016 Pjotr Nurowski Best Young European Athlete. The award is handed by the European Olympic Committee (EOC) annually since 2011 to the best young atlhetes under the age of 19. Rothenberger and Dissertation were members of the gold medal winning team at the 2016 European Junior Riders Championships. They also won double individual silver there.

Pjotr Nurowski was a Polish tennis player and the chief of the Polish Olympic Committee, who died in a plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, in 2010.

The recipient of the 2016 Pjotr Nurowski Best Young European Athlete Award hinzufügen will be announced on 21 October at the EOC General Assembly in Minsk, Belarus.
