Diana van de Bovenkamp Hospitalized After Kick from Horse

Dutch Junior rider Diana van de Bovenkamp has been hospitalized with severe injuries to her face after getting kicked by a horse on Tuesday 8 November 2016.

Van den Bovenkamp was going outside to lunge a horse, when the staff inside the barn heard a bang and found Diana on the ground. She was immediately hospitalized at a clinic in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and is currently in the intensive care unit with severe injuries to her face.

Horses.nl reported that Diana sustained fractures to her cheek bone, nose and lower jaw, while her upper jaw has been shattered. She was operated on on Tuesday evening and is being held in an induced coma until she stabilizes. It is not yet known whether she has injuries to her brain.

Aboard the 9-year old Dutch warmblood Corvette (by Rhodium x Sandro hit x Wisconsin) Diana van den Bovenkamp was member of the Dutch silver medal winning at the 2016 European Junior Riders Championships in Oliva Nova, Spain, where she also placed 20th in the individual test.

Based in Voorthuizen, The Netherlands, the 18-year old Diana recently acquired a new horse, the 7-year old Evita Ronia (by Westpoint) through her trainer Coby van Baalen.
