The German Olympic dressage team has become the recipient of the Silver Bay Leaf for its exceptional performance at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Silver Bay Leaf is the highest distinction for athletes in Germany.
The award ceremony for the Silver Bay Leaf (Silbernen Lorbeerblatt) took place on 1 November 2016 during a two-hour session at the Radial System centre for Arts and Ideas in Berlin, where German President Joachim Gauck handed the distinction to Germany's medal winners of the 2016 Olympic Games.
The Silver Bay Leaf has been instated in 1950 by German President Theodor Heuss. In 1993 president Richard won Weizsäcker rewarded the Olympians and Paralympians for the first time with the Bay Leaf in a joint celebration.
The dressage recipients are Kristina Bröhring-Sprehe, Sönke Rothenberger, Dorothee Schneider, and Isabell Werth.
Ninety-nine German athletes in total were distinguished with the medal.
