French Grand Prix squad rider Claire Gosselin has decided to retire her 18-year old Grand Prix horse Karamel de Lauture from competition sport. The pair will compete its last show this weekend at the national competition in Saint-Lô, France, on 11 - 13 November 2016.
Karamel de Lauture is a home bred Selle Français stallion by Gribaldi out of Juliska (by Donbito van de Helle). He is bred by Claire's mom Marie-Helene Yvelines-Gosselin and owned by Haras de Lauture.
Claire and her liver chestnut stallion made her competition debut at the regional show in Rouen in April 2002 in the 4-year old young horse classes. They won the 2002 French Young Horse Championships for 4-year olds in Saumur, finished second in the 2003 French Championships for 5-year olds and then won again at the 2004 French Championships for 6-year olds. They made their small tour debut in 2006 and their Grand Prix debut in 2008.
The duo's international Grand Prix debut was made at the 2011 CDIO Saumur. That year they also competed at the 2011 World Cup qualifiers in Lyon and London and the 2012 CDI-W's in Amsterdam and Lyon. Their career highlight year was in 2013 when they made it on the French team and represented their country at the European Championships in Herning.
Gosselin and Karamel de Lauture continued to compete internationall from 2014 till 2016 with only appearances in France this year at the CDI's in Saumur, Compiegne, Deauville and Saumur. The latter was their last CDI, where they scored 70.100% in the Grand Prix and won the Kur to Music with 74.250%.
As a breeding stallion, Karamel de Lauture has already proved his mark. He has sired the internationally competed small tour horse Qwismel d'Hebecourt, French medium tour horse Toomuch de Lauture (Bertrand Cornud) and French junior rider's horse Ramski de Bel (Valentine Anna Cornut).
