2016 Ecco Cup Finals

Pony riders Caroline Mogensen and Kristian Würtz Green, junior rider Camilla Andersen, young rider Maja Andreasen and Under 25 rider Laura Hviid became the winners of the 2016 Ecco Cup Finals held at the Middelfart Equestrian Centre in Middelfart, Denmark, on 2 - 4 December 2016.

The FEI Dressage Pony division in Denmark is split into two categories based on the height of the pony. In Category one for tallest ponies (up to 148 cm), Danish team rider Kristian Würtz Green won the Ecco Cup Finals on the 9-year old bay Lilo L (by Notre Bach x Manitu N) after placing first twice with 73.171% and 77.583% in the Kur. His total of 150.754 points put him far ahead of the second placed pair, Rebecca Holm Sulvest on the evergreen 18-year old Centrum (by Robin). This duo was third in the first round with 70.122% and second in the Kur (74.375%) and totalled 144.497 points for silver. Elisabeth Ulrich and the 17-year old German bred Dornick Son (by Dornik B x Bourbon) got bronze with 143.004 points after placing fifth (69.837%) and fourth (73.167%).

In the smaller pony division (category 2) Caroline Mogensen and the 9-year old Magic Design (by Hilkens Black Delight x Golden Dancer) bested the field twice and won the title. She scored 71.098% and 71.875%. Gudrun Kirstine Thuesen and the 8-year old Jean Le Penn (by Roghild's Aragorn) was the runner-up after scoring 68.252% and 70.458%

In the junior riders' division Danish team rider Camilla Andersen steered her 8-year old Danish bred Rafaella K (by Skovens Rafael x Hertug) to victory after placing second in the first round (71.404%) and winning the kur (73.958%). The silver medal went to Caroline Elsner on the 9-year old Danish bred Alskenz Firfod (by Zardin x Zalmiak with 71.491% and 72.083%. Anne Mette Lyager and her new ride Merquery, a 10-year old Metall x Bernstein offspring, finished with bronze after a fifth place (68.728%) in the first round and then climbing her way up to a second position in the Kur with 73.458%.

Maja Andreasen on Skjoldsgaard Monte-Vo Maja Andreasen left no doubt about it that she was wielding the axe of power in the young riders' division. Aboard her 13-year old Danish bred Skjoldsgaard Monte-Vo (by Munchhausen x Schwadroneur) she won both rounds with solid scores of 71.272% and 74.792%. With an overall total of almost 6 percentage points less, Pernille Koch Rasmussen and her 15-year old Heslegards Robert (by Rubin x Landau) followed in second place with 67.544% and 72.958%. Nana Gajhede and her 13-year old Zoom In Firfod (by Milan x Schwadroneur) slotted in third with 68.070% and 72.042%.

Only four combinations contested the Ecco Cup Finals for Under 25 riders. Laura Hviid and the 17-year old Schambuca Solyst (by Schwadroneur x Alibi) earned the gold after winning the first round with 66.822% and placing second in the kur with 70.708%. School teacher Julie Dankau and her 14-year old bay Overgaard's Lawell (by Weltjunge x May Sherif) finished second with 66.744% and 70.583%, while Katrine Gammelgaard Loft and the 12-year old La Reina Romana (by Romanov) earned bronze after a third place in the first round (65.775%) and a victory in the Kur (70.833%).

The ECCO Cup is a show circuit in Denmark for FEI Youth Riders in which they can practice their kur to music more often than normal in competition. A series of selection trials are held leading up to one annual Cup Finals.
