Pony rider Jana Lang and the Erbe sisters, junior rider Linda Erbe and young rider Hannah Erbe, ruled the roost at the 2017 Preis der Besten qualifier hosted at Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff's magnificent Gestut Schafhof in Kronberg, Germany on 22 - 23 April 2017. The Preis der Besten qualifier in Kronberg is the second of two observation trials for the Preis der Besten.
The first, northern based qualifier was held at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany, last weekend. The southern based trial in Kronberg is the last event where combinations can ride themselves in the picture of the German national team trainers as well as the regional team trainers, who will now sit together and decide who is eligible to compete at the 2017 Preis der Besten in Warendorf in May. The results achieved in Hagen and Kronberg will be instrumental, though not ultimately decisive. The team trainers have a final say.
In the pony division Jana Lang came straight from a hattrick at the 2017 CDI Sint-Truiden in Belgium last week to win it all again in Kronberg. Aboard Nadine Krause's 11-year old palomino Cyrill (by Champion de Luxe x Power Man), Lang scored 75.855 in the first round and upped the ante in the second round with a winning 76.219%. Tabea Schroer and Nadine Krause's 14-year old palimino Danilo (by Dornik B x Power Boy) was second twice with 73.974 and 74.268%. Julia Barbian and the 9-year old Der Kleine König (by Dornik's Donovan x Don't Worry) was the third most consistent rider, finishing fourth on Saturday with 72.222% and third on Sunday with 73.049%.
Former German pony team rider Linda Erbe has a new iron in the fire for the junior division, Fierro, a 7-year old German Sport Horse gelding (by Furst Wettin x Eskadron) which was competed briefly in 2016 by David Lessnig under the name Friedensreich. Linda took over the ride in the spring of 2016. The new duo clinched the victory on Saturday with 71.351% and on Sunday with 75.395%. Cosima von Fircks and the 9-year old Hanoverian gelding Diabolo (by Don Crusador x Weltmeyer) was third in the first round with 70.585% and added a notch in round two for second place on 72.062%. Nadine Krause and the former Young Horse World Champion Dancer, a 9-year old Dutch warmblodo gelding by Vivaldi x Tango), are finally seem to break through at the of the German junior riders' echelon. They were second on Saturday with 70.766% and third on Sunday with 70.877%.
2016 European Junior Riders Champion Hannah Erbe is also proving her worth in the young riders division with her stunning 10-year old Rhinelander gelding Carlos (by Carabas x Weltmeyer).
She won both rounds with whopping scores of 76.842% and 75.833%. Luca Michels has long been knocking at the door and aiming for the attention of the team selectors. In Kronberg he made sure to be noticed on the 9-year old Rhinelander gelding Rendezvois (by Riccione x Weltmeyer). He was fifth in the first round with 72.588%, but pushed for more power in the second and landed second place with 74.649%. Semmieke Rothenberger brought two horses to Kronberg - Dissertation and Geisha - but it was the former ride, the 10-year old Hanoverian mare Dissertation (by Don Crusador x Gluckspilz) who claimed the spotlight. They were second on Saturday with 76.141% and third on Sunday with 74.386%.
