Emma Hindle's Hanoverian licensed stallion and 2008 Olympic mount Lancet has passed away at age 24. The dark bay stallion's condition began to deteriorate and Emma did want to let him get to a stage where he would suffer so she decided to have him euthanized.

Born in 1993 and bred by Jurgen Clasen in Germany, Lancet was by Wenzel out of Stare Premium mare Stella (by Shogun xx x Absatz x Wohlan).

Lancet moved to the Netherlands as a youngster and got licensed for KWPN breeding. At the time he was owned by a syndicate which included Jacques Marée and the Bartels family. Under Imke Schellekens-Bartels, he finished 11th at the 2004 Olympic Games. British Emma Hindle acquired Lancet after the Olympics and the pair became the anchor of the British team for many years.

Hindle and Lancet represented Great Britain at the 2005, 2007 and 2009 European Dressage Championships, at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, and they placed seventh at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong. They won team silver at the 2009 European Championships in Windsor.

Lancet missed out on the 2010 World Equestrian Games as he got injured, but he returned to the show ring in 2011 for two CDI's, Fritzens and Hickstead.

He was retired from competition sport at age 18 after Hickstead. He continued to stand at stud at Emma's Brookhouse Stud in Germany, before both moved back home to Great Britain, where "Lance" spent the last year in full retirement.

"He has been playing in his field for the last year. He loved his work and spent most of his time supervising the horses being worked on the outdoor," Hindle told Eurodressage. "He didn't breed anymore but Romy and Rupert kept his libido in shape. He was one in a million."

In 2012 the KWPN society proclaimed Lancet a keur stallion, as he sired Grand Prix horses Uzzo (Patrick van der Meer), Stallone (Inna Logutenkova), Ziesto (Hans Peter Minderhoud), Ronaldo (Franziska Stieglmaier) and Salvador (Stephanie Peters) amongst others. In Germany however, Lancet never gained popularity with the breeders. His career was mainly focused on sport and he only bred little there. He has not sired any licensed sons, nor were any of his daughters decorated with the State premium title.
