2018 Pavo Cup Finals

The 4-year old Jameson, the 5-year old Imposantos, and the 6-year old Total U.S. became the grand winners of the 2018 Pavo Cup Finals which concluded on Saturday 18 August 2018.

The Pavo Cup Finals entail three rounds: a semi finals, a finals round one and then the three highest scoring horses get test ridden by a guest judge rider. This year German Stefanie Wolf was the test rider.

Jameson Continues Winning Streak

Marieke van der Putten and RS2 Dressage's KWPN licensing champion Jameson RS2 (by Zack x Negro) continued their winning streak in the finals and grabbed the title. After winning the semi finals and first finals round, guest judge rider Wolf also liked the black stallion . "He's a great horse with an enormously big canter. He was a bit nervous, but still very nice to ride," said Wolf. She rewarded him with 98 points

German Eva Môller placed second on Andreas Helgstrand's KWPN licensed and WFFS positive stallion Jovian (by Apache x Tango). The super tall dark bay also impressed Wolf and she rewarded the horse with 100 points for rideability and potential. "It doesn't feel like you're on a 4-year old. He is totally in balance. You saw his enormously big gaits, but also on the long rein he can collect. Jovian is very easy and light to ride for such a big horse. He gave me a very comfortable feeling.

Kim Koolen and the German bred but KWPN licensed stallion For Ferrero (by For Romance x Don Crusador) finished third after receiving 94 points from Wolf.

Imposantos Moves to the Top of the Board

Bart Veeze and the black KWPN licensed stallion Imposantos (by Wynton x ) moved to the top of the board after placing third in the semi finals and first in the first finals' round. Wolf rewarded the black with 98 points for rideability and potential. "He's a strong horse that is nice to sit. He really collects and extends well. The canter is easy to collect and also the traversal movements are easy. He's a horse with much quality that is nice to ride," said Wolf about Imposantos.

Inferno (by Everdale x Trento B) became the surprise horse of the Pavo Cup Finals and he made an incredible move to a second place in the end ranking. Wolf rewarded the horse with 97 points.

Veeze also placed third on the mare Imagine (by Dream Boy x Jackson). She received 94 points from Wolf.

Total U.S. Takes 6-year old Pavo Cup Title

In the 6-year old division Edward Gal rode Gaston Glock's KWPN licensed and WFFS positive stallion Total U.S. (by Totilas x Sir Donnerhall) to victory. The pair finished second in the semi-finals, won the first round of the finals and Stefanie Wolf also gave the high score of 96 points to the black stallion, Dinja van Liere and Hartsuijker (by Johnson x Scandic) were the runners-up after getting 96 points from Wolf, while with the mare Haute Couture (by Connaisseur x Krack C) Dinja finished third with 94 points.

Wolf praised Total U.S for his potential. "He is sensitive and has much potential for collection. The canter is amazing, especially the transitions back from the extension feel great. He is nice in the mouth, sharp on the aids. He gives a fantastic feeling.

A few dressage riders in the 6-year old division opted to present their young 6-year olds in a double bridle. At no other national young horse championships -- not the World Championship nor the German Bundeschampionate -- is it allowed to ride these youngsters in double bridles. However at the KWPN Championship it is surprisingly allowed.
