Dutch international Grand Prix horse Krawall has passed away. The gelding was 26 years old.
Krawall was a 1992 born Dutch warmblood by Focus out of Zilvia (by Roemer). He was bred by A. Groenen.
Under Bart Bax, Krawall was brought to international Grand Prix level. The bay gelding made his international show debut at small tour level in 2001 at the CDI Arnheim. In 2005 the pair moved up to Grand Prix level and competed for a further three years at a select number of CDI's.
In 2008 Krawall sold as a schoolmaster to Dutch young rider Jenny Schreven, who first showed him at Young Riders level and as of 2009 at Grand Prix level. Their GP debut was in July 2009 in Pompadour, France.
Between 2010 and 2012 the pair performed at a string of internationals in Amsterdam, Braunschweig, Saumur, Wiesbaden, Lingen, Strassen, Saumur, Gothenburg, 's Hertogenbosch, Copenhagen, Falsterbo, Hickstead, Odense, and London. The icing on the cake was their 2012 World Cup Finals start and 11th place. It was also their swan song as it was the last CDI for the 20-year old Krawall. He was officially retired from sport in August 2013 as a 21-year old.
"He stayed in my barn until his last moment. He was enjoying the field and once in a while he was hacked with the teach the younger horses. He loved to gallop in the woods and frolick in the field with his buddy Gerrit, my young Jazz," Schreven told Eurodressage.
"We had to put him down because his health was deteriorating the past two weeks," said Jenny. "I'm still very sad about it and can't believe he's no longer here. In December he would have been with us for 10 years."
