Spanish 2018 WEG team rider Juan Matute Guimon is back in the saddle and riding horses after he almost died from a massive brain bleed on 5 May 2020.
On 5 May the 22-year old suffered a massive brain bleed and was twice operated on for an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).He was kept in an artificial coma for two weeks and was extubated on Whitsunday weekend. Matute made a miraculous recovery, experiencing no aphasia and only his motor skills on his right side require intensive physiotherapy. He left the hospital on 3 July and continued his rehabilitation as an outpatient.
Yesterday, the young top sport athlete sat for the first time on a horse again.
He also shared a message of religious belief and divine intervention in his recovery on social media:
"It feels absolutely AMAZING to be back where I belong. I’m sooo fortunate and I feel blessed for being able to share my passion with my family... thank you mom and dad for bringing out your warrior side and proving to me time and time again that EVERYTHING is possible when you BELIEVE and you have FAITH. 🏼 I have a message for those of you that are struggling with something within your own life or a family member around you is having a difficult time. BELIEVE in the Lord and have FAITH that EVERYTHING will be alright. The Lord is GOOD and He has a plan for every single one of us."
