The chestnut mare Romy was named the champion of the 2020 Hanoverian Elite Mare Show, also known as the Herwart von der Decken-Show.
Due to the corona pandemic, the 2020 edition of the annual Elite Mare Show took place in the indoor arena at the headquarters of the Hanoverian breed society in Verden, Germany.
This year's judging panel included Hanoverian board member Jörn Wedermann and breeding director Ulrich Hahne, as well as Danish stallion owner Ib Kirk from Katrinelund Stud.
Gestut Greim's elegant mare Romy (by Revolution x Belissimo M was named the champion of the show in the dressage division. Romy goes back to foundation mare Sefaza, one of the most successful Hannoveraner dam lines. The privately owned stallion Revolution, whose career began five years ago in Verden with a spectacular appearance in the licensing and then selling for a million euro to Andreas Helgstrand, presented his first crop of mares this year.
The Reserve Champion Mare was Bon Bon (by Bon Coeur x Waterford), bred by Marion Gabel and owned by professional dressage rider Eike Bewerungen in partnership with the breeder.
"Impressive in expression and with a strong back she had a powerful hindquarters and modern riding horse qualities," said the grading committee.
A total of 53 dressage mares competed for the coveted title. They were divided into five groups. Seven mares were invited to the Champion's ring. "We were excited about the Hanoverian dressage mares," Ib Kirk summed up. "I am not surprised that the quality was so high."
Charlize (by Chacoon Blue/Stolzenberg) was named champion in the jumping division. She is bred and owned by Hermann Nehus.
The Hanoverian society also allocates a title to the best cross-bred mare. This year it was Ixxi CE (by Il Divo xx x Don Frederico) bred by Indra Wallner and owned by Claudia and Eduard Riemann.
