The FEI Dressage pony Brasil, who first competed internationally for Holland and then Great Britain, has returned to Holland as a schoolmaster for 13-year old Yasmin Westerink.
Brasil is a 13-year old Dutch Welsh pony by Sandokan's Leonardo out of Fuore (by Orchard d'Avranches).
The black pony gelding made his first claim to fame in 2013 when he won the Dutch Young Pony Championships as a 6-year old under Kim Noordijk.
The 10-year old Dutch FEI dressage pony Brasil (by Sandokan's Leonardo x Orchard d'Avranches) has been sold to Great Britain as a schoolmaster for Hermione Tottman.
Kim Noordijk and Brasil
Under Kim Noordijk, Brasil was the Dutch Young Pony Champion as a 6-year old and a member of the Dutch pony A-squad.
In September 2014 the pair made its international show debut at the CDI Zandhoven. Three months later they scored almost a full 5% more at the CDI Roosendaal Indoor.
In 2015 the pair went full force in an attempt to qualify for the Dutch team for the European Pony Championships in Malmo. They competed at CDI's in Drachten, Nieuw en St. Joosland, Roosendaal and Hagen, but ended up being named team reserve.
In 2016 they made a final attempt in Noordijk's last year on ponies and after starts in Joosland and Odense with consistent scores in the seventies, they were selected on the team for the European Pony Championships in Vilhelmsborg, Denmark. Unfortunately the pony failed the horse inspection and Holland competed as a team of three at the event.
Five months later, Noordijk and Brasil showed at the CDI Roosendaal Indoor in December 2016 and won all three pony classes.
Hermione Tottman and Brasil
In the summer of 2017 Brasil sold to Great Britain and became the ride of Hermione Tottman.
Their CDI debut at Keysoe in March 2018 was a bit rocky and Tottman went back to the drawing board and competed only nationally that year.
They returned the CDI Keysoe in March 2019 where they again had a difficult start and were eliminated, but at the CDI Nieuw en St. Joosland a month later they found their stride and posted their first international scores. They continued to compete at Compiegne and Hagen that year and were nominated as the British team reserve riders for the 2019 European Pony Championships.
The CDIO-P Hagen in June was the pair's last international as Tottman reached the age limit and became a junior rider in 2020.
Return to Holland
Brasil has now returned to The Netherlands as a schoolmaster for Yasmin Westerink.
Despite her young age, Westerink is already an experienced pony rider, having competed Sam, Dorina, Prince B, Happy, and Cappucino Royale G.
Three weeks the duo made its show debut and two weeks ago Yasmin and Brasil competed at the squad selection trial in Tolbert and scored 67.714%. They have been submitted the KNHS Talent Team.
