2020 Swedish Young Horse Championships

The 3-year old Bergsjoholms Barletta, the 4-year old Vancouver, the 5-year old Mr Grey VH, the 6-year old Springbank II, and the 7-year old Shizeido GJ became the winners of the 2020 Swedish Warmblood Young Horse Championships in Flyinge on 23 - 27 September 2020.

Because of corona the 2020 edition of the Swedish Young Horse Championships were closed to the public but was streamed live online.

These Young Horse Championships are open to Swedish warmblood bred and registered horses as well as stallions licensed for breeding with the Swedish Warmblood society.

Bergsjoholms Barletta

In the 3-year old division, no less than 42 combinations participated and it was Camilla Axelsson who took the title aboard Marita Strauch's mare Bergsjoholms Barletta (by For Romance II x Epson). Judges Jan-ove Olsson and Marie Knutsson rewarded the horse with 8.5 for walk and trot, 9 for canter, balance and suppleness and 9.5 for general impression. With a total of 89.00 points the gold was theirs.

Mikaela Alderin-Danielsson and the Swedish mare Emmylou (by Furstenball x Emmerton) got silver with 84.20 points. The mare earned 7.5 for walk, 8.7 for trot, 8.1 for canter, 9 for suppleness and 8.8 for general impression.

The Danish based Jeanna Hogberg and the Swedish gelding Be Allex (by Ampere x Dalwhinnie) got bronze with 83.20 points. This gelding got 8.2 for walk and trot, 8.5 for canter, 8.2 for suppleness and 8.5 for general impression.

Vancouver

The 4-year old division is annually the most exciting one of the Nationals as it consists of a finals with a guest judge rider testing the horse's gaits and potential. This year Danish star Cathrine Dufour was invited and she provided expert commentary after each horse.

The ten highest scoring horses of the first round were test ridden in round two. Julia Persson and the Swedish gelding Vancouver (by Veneziano x Zuidenwind) claimed the gold medal. Purchased as a family project by the rider, her parents and grand father, Vancouver is a talent for the future. He won round one with 88.400 points and received a 9 for rideability and 9.5 for potential from Dufour. With a total of 90.450 points he won the title.

Emma Jonsson and Saro Stable's Swedish gelding Flow (by Fursten-Look x Frienship) scored the silver medal with a total of 90.350 points. He was second in the first round with 88.200 points, and got 9.5 for rideability and 9 for potential from Dufour.

The bronze went to Jeanna Hogberg on Britta Hermanson's Swedish gelding Alfred SV (by Ampere x Deniro). He moved from a fourth place in the first round (83.00 points) to a third after the test rider final, in which he got 9 for rideability and 9.5 for potential. He totalled 87.750 points.

Mr Grey VH

Swedish Jessica Lynn Thomas trailered Vastra Hoby's Swedish stallion Mr Grey VH (by Grey Flanell x Dalwhinnie) from Germany to Flying to compete in the Nationals and return home with the champion sash in the 5-year old division. The finals were judged by Magnus Ringmark, Annette Fransen Iacobaeus and Marie Knutsson. Thomas and Mr Grey VH posted 90.00 points in the finals with 9.5 for walk, 8.7 for trot, 9 for canter, 8.5 for submission and 9.3 for general impression. Last year stallion won the 4-year old title under Jeanna Hogberg.

Carl Hedin and JW Dressyr's Oldenburg stallion Dantes Specter (by Dante Weltino x Donnerball) were the runners-up with 86.20 points. The black stallion received 7.3 for walk, 9 for trot, 8.8 for canter, and 9 for submission and general impression.

Ebba von Essen and Hans Ericson's Swedish gelding Zanté (by Zack x Don Primero) collected bronze with 84.60 points. This horse got 7.5 for walk, 8.8 for trot, 9.2 for canter, 8 for submission and 8.8 for general impression.

Springbank II

Danish Betina Jaeger has had a full agenda with Springbank II, Vastra Hoby's Swedish licensed stallion by Skovens Rarael x De Niro. Just days after winning the Danish Young Horse Semi-Finals, the pair drove to Flyinge for the Swedish nationals and won the 6-year old finals with 96.60 points. The liver chestnut stallion scored 9.5 for walk, 10 for trot, 9.8 for canter, 9 for submission and 10 for potential. This is Springbank II's second title. He first won it in 2017 as a 3-year old under Spaniard Severo Jurado Lopez.

Mia Runesson and her own Swedish gelding Zenit (by Zuidenwind x Don Schufro) scored the silver with 84.60 points. He got 7.8 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 9 for canter, 8 for submission and 9 for potential.

Sandra Sterntorp and Vastra Hoby's Swedish stallion Bowmore VH (by Skovens Rafael x Akribori) slotted in third with 83.00 points. The bay stallion got 8.7 for walk, 8.3 for trot, 8.5 for canter, 7.5 for submission and 8.5 for potential.

Shizeido GJ

Nine combinations competed in the 7-year old finals and Madelene Engelke battled it out with Finnish Yvonne Osterholm for the victory. In the end it was Engelke on her own stallion Shizeido GJ (by Sezuan x Danzas) that topped the board with 80.643 points and claimed the title. The bay stallion got 10 for walk, 8.8 for trot, 8.9 for canter, 8.5 for submission and 9.3 for general impression. Their technical mark was 70.286%.

Osterholm was on her heels, scoring 80.415% aboard Ucas AB's KWPN licensed stallion Ironman H (by Bordeaux x Rousseau). The black stallion scored 8.2 for walk, 8.8 for trot, 9 for canter, 8.7 for submission and 9 for general impression. His technical mark was the highest of the class, 73.429%.

Sophia Skobe Rosen and her own mare Dartula VH (by Dalwhinnie x Coroado WL) collected the bronze medal with 72.529 points. Her mare earned 7.8 for walk and canter, 8 for trot, 7.5 for submission and 8 for general impression. The technical score was 66.857%.

The 7-year old finals were judged by Ringmark, Fransen Iacobaeus and Wiveca Schenholm.
