Mia Allegra Lohe  became the winner of the 2020 German Developing Pony Rider Championships held at the indoor competition in Darmstadt, Germany, on 12-13 December 2020. Aboard the 11-year old Welsh pony Tovdal’s Golden Future Imperial, she scored the highest overall total of 17.9 points.

A total of 20 pairs were selected to compete in the Developing Pony Rider Championships, which are the stepping stone for young pony riders to FEI level pony sport.  Nineteen combinations ended up travelling to Darmstadt-Kranichstein, where the postponed Championships took place due to Corona.

The combinations have to contest two L-level tests and the results are totaled for the final ranking. This year they were judged by Tina Viebahn and Knut Danzberg. German pony team trainer Connie Endres provided the commentary.

Lohe Champion

Mia Allegra Lohe and the palomino Tovdal’s Golden Future Imperial (by CJ Chargon Bredager x Rytterbjergets Imperial) led the pack and won both rounds, scoring 8.7 in the first round and 9.0 in the final round.

"This was simply very good," said Endres at the end of Lohe's test. "It really touches the heart to watch the two of you. You sit very naturally, balanced and with effective aids full of feeling."

A lack of impulsion in the turn on the haunches and some lack of self carriage in the counter canter were the only two remarks.

The 13-year old Lohe trains with Tara Schneider at Gut Romerhof.  She has been riding Imperial for almost one year, having taken over the ride from Danish pony rider Ceclia Lyngvild.

Pawluk and Hassmann are Two and Three

The reserve champion's title went to another one of Tara Schneider's students, Veronica Pawluk on the 7-year old Golden Diamond W (by HET Golden Dream x Danny Gold). The pair scored 8.0 and 8.4 to land second place overall.

Endres described their final round as "a very harmonious, precise round with very well ridden lines and movements. She sits deep into the saddle, supple and with a good leg position."

The bronze medal went to Angelina Hassmann, the daughter of German international show jumper Toni Hassmann. With the 10-year old palomino mare Dearly (by FS Don't Worry x Champion de Luxe) she placed third with 7.4 and 8.2.

The 14-year old Hassmann was a last-minute addition to the line-up in Darmstadt as she was initially a reserve for the finals. Her third place was a dream finish at her first championship.

"That was a debut with style," Endres said about Hassmann, who was first to go on Sunday. She was praised for her relaxed and well balanced seat and refined aids.
