Horses.nl reported that Dutch stallion owner and breeder Sjaak van der Lei has acquired half ownership of the 4-year old KWPN licensed stallion Mowgli VOD.
Mowgli VOD is a 2017 born stallion by Desperado out of Zoriana (by Jazz x Juventus). He is bred by Ad van Os and owned by his son, Jorg van Os.
He became a premium stallion of the 2020 KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch, but was then pulled because a veterinary issue was noted. One of his testicles was underdeveloped.
In 2020 all recently licensed stallion received permission to breed despite not having done a performance test because of the special corona circumstances.
Mowgli's health "issue" resolved over the year and he was allowed to participate in the 2020 KWPN Stallion Autumn Performance Testing, in which he scored 80 points. He received 7.5 for walk, 8 for trot, 8.5 for canter, and 8 for suppleness, self carriage, rideability and potential.
Van der Lei has obtained half ownership in the chestnut stallion.
"I thought Mowgli was one of the best stallions at the licensing and his dam is one of the best mares of Holland," said Sjaak. "We have two horses in training with Franka Loos and that's where he saw him again. The click was there again. He's such a good horse."
Mowgli's dam Zoriana also produced performance test winner Kjento (by Negro).
The show jumping trained Van der Lei runs Studutch, a breeding center and stallion station in The Netherlands. In 2020 they also organized an exclusive embryo auction.
