The 2021 CDI Le Mans in France on 12 - 14 February was the first international dressage competition on the European continent open to all level and nations.
The year atypically kicked off with the World Cup qualifier in Salzburg, but this invitation based event yielded a small field of competitors. The big action kicked off in Le Mans and the programme was action packed, spread out over two spacious indoor arenas.
In the big tour, Danish Nanna Skodborg Merrald made her CDI debut on Danish team ride Blue Hors Zack (by Rousseau x Jazz). The pair swept the board in the Grand Prix and Special, leaving room for Russian Aleksandra Maksakova to claim victory in the Grand Prix freestyle.
In the Under 25 division, Swiss Estelle Schurink made her mark aboard the 11-year old Lusitano Fangarifau (by Nostradamus do Top x Nautico CFR) The duo jumped straight from the junior division in 2020 into the Under 25 Grand Prix group this year. The grey Lusitano was previous campaigned by French Charlotte Chalvignac, who also premiered a new Lusitano in Le Mans: the 8-year old Icardo das Figueiras (by Epico x Unico).
